Appalachian Spring Break (7-24)
Two dismantled clarinets. An adult diaper, toe-shoes and a pile of guitar pedals. Ken Burns' Civil War. A pop. Then a click. Then a slow entrance from the hanamichi. A flourish of eyelashes.
APPALACHIAN SPRING BREAK considers the Modern magic of Martha Graham and Aaron Copland. It is also the adolescent noodlings of two dweeb clarinetists. It most definitely is the first collaboration between Bessie Award Winning SCOTTY HERON and Obie Award winning BRENDAN CONNELLY.
You may have seen Scotty in Minneapolis over the past dozen years performing solo and in collaboration with HIJACK. Scotty's work has been called everything from "brilliant and surprisingly loveable" (The New York Times), to "terrible and entrancing" (Village Voice) to "screamingly funny and demented (MNArts.org).
The New York Times calls Brendan "talented," The New York Sun says, "spectacular," and Culturebot just says, "Brendan Connelly's music rocks like crazy!"
