Journey of the Universe -- What's it All About -- Larry Edwards
Do you wonder about the world we live in? Have you questioned where we come from and how life and the universe began? The answer is most likely yes. So, you won't want to miss this course. First, you will learn about new scientific discoveries in a film, "The Journey of the Universe: An Epic Story of Cosmic, Earth and Human Transformation". This film won the 2012 Northern California Regional Emmy for best documentary. In 55 minutes, this film will explore life's biggest questions and our role as humans in the universe.
Social author and Evolutionary Philosopher Brian Swimme and Yale Historian of Religions Mary Evelyn Tucker wrote this documentary. They wove together scientific discoveries about astronomy, geology, biology, ecology and biodiversity with humanistic insights concerning the nature of the universe.
After the screening we will discuss the big picture issues you saw in the film, ranging from the birth of the cosmos to the invisible frontiers of the human genome and our current impact on earth's evolutionary dynamics.
Larry Edwards, PhD, will lead the discussion. He earned his degree in Chemical Physics at Harvard. He taught and was a researcher at The American University in Beirut, Cal State Northridge and Cal Tech. Dr. Edwards worked at the US National Science Foundation and at Genesis Farm, an ecological retreat center in Blairstown, New Jersey.
