Basic Genetics From the Beginning Until Now -- Gene Kalland
What is a gene? The concept of a gene and the basic laws of inheritance were introduced 150 years ago by Gregor Mendel, an Austrian monk. Mendel's concepts lay dormant until rediscovered at the turn of the 20th Century. Since then they have been transformed and expanded so that they are as central to a full understanding of life as the atom is to understanding the physical world.
Attend this fascinating course and gain a better understanding of what genes are, how they operate and what role they play in human biology. The information learned will leave you better equipped to follow future advances in genetics and better understand who and what you really are.
This is a DVD lecture course given by a leading professor of Biophysics at Princeton University. Beginning with explaining Mendel's laws of inheritance, the lectures will explain their transformation into an understanding of chromosome structure, what gene's do, the human gnome, the role of genes in human disease and genes as a tool in understanding human evolution.
Gene Kalland, PhD, will facilitate this DVD course. He taught Biology for over 30 years at Cal State Dominquez Hills specializing in Endocrinology and Developmental Biology. He is a graduate of Cal State Northridge and Indiana University in Bloomington. Previously, Dr. Kalland facilitated LLCC DVD courses about The Universe, Oceanography and Evolution.
