Expressing Your Personal Philosophy -- Dick Jackson
Through the ages philosophers have posed questions and tried to answer them. They start with a set of assumptions and write whole books justifying their conclusions with which some other philosophers disagree. They may not reach any kind of absolute truth, but it's fun to watch them go at it.
This class will put all the attendees into the role of a philosopher. Questions will be posed and we will attempt to come up with answers based on our value system. The questions will be: How much should we compromise on our belief in the free expression of ideas? To what extent should society attempt to control our ingestion of certain substances (e.g. cocaine, sugar)? Thought priming material will be circulated prior to the class.
Dick Jackson earned a PhD in Physics and spent his career in data communication. Finally reaching his life goal of retirement, he's discovered person to person communication is the ultimate and looks forward to leading this course in face to face discussions that can be serious and entertaining!
