Wesley Balk Solo Performance Series: Christina Baldwin
CHRISTINA BALDWIN:
Mezzo-soprano CHRISTINA BALDWIN appeared in Nautilus' production of Sister Stories, four short music-theater pieces commissioned for her and her sister. She has also appeared with Nautilus in numerous Rough Cuts programs and Composer-Librettist studios. Other career highlights include an eight-year collaboration with Theatre de la Jeune Lune; creating the role of Myrtle Wilson in the Guthrie Theater's world premiere of The Great Gatsby; performing in the Schubert Club's 2006 Summer Song Festival's Music of Robert Schumann; soloist in the world premiere of Stephen Paulus' To Be Certain of the Dawn with the Minnesota Orchestra, conducted by Osmo Vänskä; and guest performer with her sister on Garrison Keillor's A Prairie Home Companion. Her other performing credits include performances with the American Repertory Theatre, the Minnesota Opera, Skylark Opera, Kansas City Repertory Theater, Ex-Machina Baroque Opera Ensemble, History Theatre, and New Breath Productions.

Considered by many in our field to have been one of the leading authorities on training singer-actors, Wesley Balk served as artistic director of The Minnesota Opera for almost twenty years, where he earned a national reputation for his imaginative and bold approach to stagings of both traditional operas and new music-theater. He continued his work with us at Nautilus as our Director of Performer Development. Join us as we celebrate his achievements with four of the Twin Cities' most popular performers who demonstrate the power of integrated singing-acting in a series of eclectic programs material chosen from Nautilus' repertoire, favorite selections from contemporary opera and musicals, and excerpts from new work designed to confound your expectations about music-theater! All the performances will be held at Zeitgeist's Studio Z, 275 Fourth St at Wall, next to the Farmer's Market in St Paul.
