THE MAGIC FLUTE
The Balboa Theatre launches an exclusive series of European opera and ballet performances filmed live in HD, beginning with a week-long engagement starting Friday, April 15, of Mozart's The Magic Flute. This celebrated production by artist William Kentridge joyfully bursts onto the stage of Teatro alla Scala in Milan. Mr. Kentridge's production was described in the New York Times as "an exuberant dialogue between drawing and music, a three-dimensional work of art with video projected across and around the human figures onstage." A selection of drawings, films, and theater models inspired by Kentridge's 2005 production of The Magic Flute was a highlight of the enormously popular 2009 exhibition of his work at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
April 15-21: 2pm and 7pm daily
3 hours with intermission.
