Science: Peter Kahn: Technology as a Pale Surrogate for Nature
Does it matter that much of our experience with nature these days is mediated and augmented by technology? In Technological Nature, UW psychology professor Peter Kahn argues that it does. Nature experienced through technologyfrom television programs, to virtual lands in digital games, to robotic animalscan serve as a bonus to life, but not as its substitute. Richard Louv (Last Child in the Woods) calls Kahn a "pioneering researcher on the human relationship with nature" and his book "a provocative tour of the disappearing borderland between machinery and humanity." Presented as part of Seattle Science Lectures, with Pacific Science Center and University Book Store. Series sponsored by Microsoft. Series media sponsorship provided by KPLU.
