Sadie's Kitchen
Written by local playwright and author La'Chris Jordan, "Sadie's Kitchen" is a gripping drama set in present-day New Orleans, Louisiana. The play opens with Sadie Smith who is looking forward to her only daughter, Clarice, graduating from college. However, when Clarice tells Sadie and her longtime boyfriend, Steve, she is pregnant and plans to have an abortion, the peace of the household quickly unravels, forcing Clarice to reveal a painful secret and reconcile with everything she holds dear. Renowned director and comedian Isiah Anderson, Jr., will direct the nine-member cast.
"Sadie's Kitchen" is a recipient of the Artist Trust GAP Fund (www.artisttrust.org), a grant given to individual artists in Washington State for artistic excellence.
"Sadie's Kitchen" was also recently selected as a New Work by the Frank Silvera's Writers Workshop (www.fsww.org) in New York. All new plays selected by the FSWW were presented at the Readers' Theatre Series of New Plays at the 2005 National Black Theater Festival.
