Comedy Returns to El Rio! Queer Comedy Night (Mon, June 13)
Kung Pao Kosher Comedy Presents... Comedy Returns to El Rio! Queer Comedy Night
Every 2nd Monday of the month @ 8pm at El Rio.
The Monday, June 13th Queer Comedy Night (because it's June, and it's the law) features: Matina Bevis, Julia Jackson, Nate Blanchard, Joan Howard, and Lisa Geduldig.
Matina Bevis brings her unique brand of comedy and hilarious perspective to the stage. Long known for her irreverent and offbeat humor, she is a proven favorite on the comedy & festival circuit, clubs, college, cruise ships, and corporate events. Born in Texas, raised in small town Alabama, and now living in LA, Matina is is a regular on the LA comedy scene and is writing for TV (credits include Dharma and Greg and The Drew Carey Show). Matina's recent pit stops include: Dublin, Ireland; Lesbos, Greece; The Laugh Factory, Improv, Comedy Store, and a not yet released "Funny or Die" film produced by Eddie Izzard and Sarah Townsend. Matina was in the San Francisco Comedy Competition twice.
Julia Jackson is a comedian and solo artist known for her biting social commentary as well as actually biting audience members from time to time. This rising comedy star has performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and was a semi-finalist in the San Francisco International Comedy Competition. Her solo performance piece "I Didn't Sign Up for This" was selected for the 2010 San Francisco Theatre Festival. Julia appeared in the film "Some Prefer Cake" and has worked with Robin Williams, Dana Carvey, and Paul Mooney.
Nate Blanchard is a comedian, writer, and a firm believer in Diet Coke. He likes skinny jeans and bow ties. He runs on donuts and Kombucha. He performs his quirky queer comedy all over the Bay Area including Harveys, Toolbox, and the SF Punchline. He lives in San Francisco and loves to dress up for Safeway. He is finally legal.
Joan Howard began playing sports as a child and has since translated her athleticism into physical theater as an adult. She is trained in acting, improv, stage combat, clown and circus arts and is a graduate of Flying Actor Studio's Physical Theatre Conservatory. Joan is a founding member of Main Street Theatre and has been seen performing physical comedy there and at other local venues including Barbary Coast Amusements and The Climate's Clown Cabaret. Joan teaches circus camp for kids and Circus Boot Camp for bigger kids. She is currently working on a solo show about her life as a cowboy: the first part, you will see tonight.
Lisa Geduldig is the creator, producer, & MC of a variety of annual comedy shows: Kung Pao Kosher Comedy; The George Bush Going Away Party; Funny Girlz; A Muslim, A Mormon, and A Jew Walk into A Bar; The Color of Funny; Comedy Returns to El Rio; Cafe con Comedy; Charo...
