CIMMfest 2011: Flames of God
Flames of God Documentary, France/Macedonia, 62 min., US premiere Directed by Meshakai Wolf
Languishing in poverty and obscurity, the gypsy poet and songwriter documented in Flames of God is trying his best to raise a family, compile a hand-written dictionary of a dying language, write transcendent love poems, and sell songs to popular recording artists in Macedonia. His life takes a surprising turn when he is selected to appear at the International Poetry Biennal, where he can meet with old friends in Paris and try to publish his life's work. Touching and heartbreaking, Flames of God follows this wonderful, grizzly old man on his quest to explain his passion and love for the language of the Roma gypsies.
