CIMMFest 2011: Superstonic Sound: The Rebel Dread
Directed by Raphael Erichsen and Edward Dallal
Dubstep is one of the biggest things to come out of London in the past 20 years, but its origins came in the 1970s, thanks to Don Letts of the famous Roxy nightclub. Letts mixed Jamaican dub and reggae with the sounds of the nascent punk rock scene, influencing bands like the Sex Pistols and the Clash. Letts and Mick Jones built on that connection with the formation of Big Audio Dynamite.
With: "An Impression: Dischord Records" (short doc about DC punk label, directed by Leena Jayaswal & Kylos Brannon), "Look to the Sea" (music video, directed by Cable Hardin), "Help Desk" by Norden Bombsight" (music video, directed by Roy Eventov), and "So Damn High" by Ruby Isle (music video, directed by Kylos Brannon)
