CIMMFest 2011: Opening Night
Opening night at WPAC: Where Music and Movies (Are) Live
Wrekmeister Harmonies Do Kenneth Anger Joan of Arc on Joan of Arc
Opening the evening will be award-winning filmmaker/musician Paul Festa, who will accompany his short film The Glitter Emergency.
Then, in sound artist J.R. Robinson's latest collaboration, music ensemble Wrekmeister Harmonies, composed of Trevor deBrau (Pelican), Jamie Fennely (Mind Over Mirrors), Mark Shippy (US Maple), Pat Samson (US Maple), Matthew Carson (Miracle Condition), David Yow (The Jesus Lizard), John Herndon (Tortoise), will accompany avant-garde filmmaker Kenneth Anger's two masterpieces, Lucifer Rising and Scorpio Rising. The result is a unique hybrid of sound art, music, and moving image.
Then at 9:30 pm, Chicago band Joan of Arc will accompany Carl Theodor Dreyer's 1928 silent masterpiece The Passion of Joan of Arc, lending their signature dense, sample-heavy brand of indie rock to create new ways of seeing Dreyer's film.
