FESTIVAL PASS UNSOUND FESTIVAL NEW YORK 2011
Unsound Festival New York 2011 is a festival of forward-thinking music taking place in various venues across New York City. Influential electronic music website Resident Advisor recently placed it at the top of the list of best festivals around the world for April 2011, writing: "In only its second year, Unsound New York has already emerged as one of the most forward-thinking festivals in electronic music. An offshoot of an event started in Krakow, Unsound New York brings together club sounds both physical and cerebral." The festival is presented by Fundjaca Tone, the Polish Cultural Institute in New York and Goethe-Institut New York. A limited number of passes are available for sale. At $100 (plus ticket handling and taxes), these passes are valid for all ticketed shows that take place from April 6-10, and include all events listed below. Please note: Passes do not give access to Unsound LABS events. Nor do they guarantee a place for free events, which are completely open to the general public and have limited seating. Festival passes MUST be picked up at the Goethe-Institut Wyoming Building, located at 5 East 3rd Street, between Bowery and 2nd Ave., open during the following times:

Wed 4/6 8pm // Alice Tully Hall - Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts OPENING NIGHT, presented with Sacrum Profanum and Organized with the Krakow Festival Office and Mickiewicz Institute Curated with Krakow festival Sacrum Profanum featuring Sinfonietta Cracovia, one of Poland's leading orchestras. It performs Steve Reich and Krzysztof Penderecki, as well as "Music For Solaris". Marking the 50th anniversary of the novel Solaris by Krakow's Stanislaw Lem and inspired in part by the film by Andrei Tarkovsky, this Unsound-commissoned work is by Ben Frost and Daníel Bjarnason, with film manipulations by Brian Eno and Nick Robertson.
Thur 4/7 10pm // Judson Memorial Church // BEYOND THE DARK, presented with the Mickiewicz Institute The celebrated Polish composer Henryk Mikołaj Górecki died in 2010. Known for the hugely popular 3rd Symphony, his work ranges from radical modernism to the deeply romantic. This is a unique chance to hear Górecki performed by Sinfonietta Cracovia, which had a close relationship to the composer. Norwegian duo Deaf Center opens, fusing electronics and acoustic instruments.
Fri 4/8 6pm // (Le) Poisson Rouge FRKWYS Live: Unsound Edition Presented with respected independent imprint RVNG INTL and (Le) Poisson Rouge, pioneers of synthesizer music Alan Howarth and Harald Grosskopf are joined by Cleveland trio Emeralds showing parallels between synth music old and new. Grosskopf performs with ARP, Blondes, Laurel Halo, Pink Skull and James Ferraro, while Howarth and Emeralds also take the stage together for the first time ever.
Fri 4/8 10pm // Public Assembly BASS MUTATIONS Our renowned exploration of bass in a club context. Influential artists Kode9, Appleblim, Dorian Concept and Badawi appear alongside rising names Lone, Sepalcure and Spatial. In Unsound style, our search for freshness also takes us to unexpected places with Eleven Tigers (Lithuania), The Phantom & Zeppy Zep (Poland) and Chancha Via Circuito (Argentina).
Sat 4/9 5pm // Littlefield OCEANS OF NOISE Extreme sounds curated with Carlos Giffoni of No Fun. Russian COH and German Marcus Schmickler both have new releases on Vienna's Editions Mego label. Poland's Robert Piotrowicz teams up with NYC's Spencer Yeh! (Burning Star Core), while Giffoni performs a searing analogue synth set. Ending is Instant Coffee, a side project of Matmos member M.C.Schmidt with Lisle Ellis and Jason Willett.
Sat 4/9 10pm // Public Assembly UNSOUND EDITION OF THE BUNKER A unique showcase of artists from Europe's east with Bulgaria's KiNK, Croatia's Petar Dundov, Poland's Jurek Przedziecki and Finland's Samuli Kemppi and Tin Man playing techno and house. Add the minimal dub of Pulshar (Spain), Glitterbug (Germany) as well as the USA's Octave One and this is a hugely diverse array of artists in both musical and geographical terms. Latest news: a rare show from German headliners Atom Heart & Pink Elln has also just been added to the bill!
Sun 4/10 8pm // Abrons Arts Center // $20 IMMERSION Lustmord, legendary creator of the dark ambient genre, performs his second US show in 25 years. Expect rumbling sub frequencies and terrifying sound sculptures with stunning visuals by Lustmord himself. Void ov Voices is the solo project of Hungarian Atilla Csihar, known as vocalist for Mayhem and Sunn O))). Polish experimental musician Robert Piotrowicz opens with an intense, dramatic set.
