KidsAcoustic: A Feast of Irish Music
Seattle Historical Arts for Kids is proud to present our second season of family concerts at Empty Sea Studios, offering a truly unique, up-close musical experience.
The KidsAcoustic series offers real music for grownups, enchanting tunes for kids, and a chance for all the children to try the instruments afterwards! For each concert, teacher and early string performer Shulamit Kleinerman joins forces with a duo partner from a folk or early music tradition.
A FEAST OF IRISH MUSIC
Here's a generous helping of the beautiful and spirited music of the Emerald Isle, for a barely-belated celebration St. Patrick's Day. Empty Sea owner and fabulous multi-instrumentalist Michael Connolly adds his harp, fiddle, accordion, guitar, mandolin, Irish flute, and uileann pipes to Shula's fiddlel. Michael's uniquelysoulful sound brings these traditional tunes to life.
Michael Connolly is a multi-instrumentalist performer, teacher, and audio engineer living in Seattle Washington. Originally from Memphis, Tennessee, Michael delved deeply into bluegrass, old-time, Irish traditional, blues, and swing music on anumber of instruments.
As a performer, he as appeared on nineteen albums including collaborations with singer-songwriter Korby Lenker and prog rocker Trey Gunn (King Crimson). Michael has toured with Coyote Grace, Kate Graves, and Michelle Shocked, performing on fiddle, mandolin, accordion, guitar, piano and Hammond organ. Currently, Michael owns and operates Empty Sea Studios, an acoustic listening room and recording studio in Seattle Washington which, after hosting 110 acoustic music concerts and generating 10 studio albums in the span of 18 months, has gained a reputation in the Northwest for impeccable audio and an intimate, artist-focused environment. He maintains an active teaching studio for mandolin and fiddle.
Shulamit Kleinerman first added family house concerts to her offerings for children in 2007, and the audience quickly outgrew her teaching studio. The new space at Empty Sea is still welcoming, relaxed, and intimate enough for kids to scootch right upto the musicians' feet but now there's also room to dance! Shula is passionate about bringing the arts of earlier ages alive for kids. From Mozart operas to baroque minuets to Shakespeare skits to medieval songs, her historical arts workshops connect kids with the sparkle of the past. More information about her performances and classes for kids and adults can be found at shulamitk.net.
