"King Lear" by William Shakespeare
Hailed by critics as one of William Shakespeare's supreme achievements, "King Lear" is also one of the Bard's darkest tragedies.
Based loosely on the legend of a medieval King Leir, Shakespeare's play depicts an aging king who steps down from the throne and divides his kingdom between two of his three daughters. Jealousy, deception, and betrayal follow as infighting spreads among the nobles and England is brought to war with France.
Bare Theatre's Rogue Company opens the third full season under director Carmen-maria Mandley with a two-week run of this classic. The show opens in Durham at Common Ground Theatre and moves to the Holly Springs Cultural Center for its second weekend.
