Pascal & Remy LeBoeuf - The Future of Jazz is Now!
If you're looking for confirmation that jazz is alive and well and shooting into the future with elan, look no further than the young piano/saxophone team of Pascal and Remy LeBoeuf.
Not only were the LeBoeufs winners of the 2006 ASCAP Young Composers Award, but Pascal's new CD, Migration, featuring his brother Remy, of course, was recently named winner of the 2006 Independent Music Awards for jazz.
Oh, yes. These guys can play! And they'll be backed by a fabulous ensemble, including young trumpet phenom Ambrose Akinmusire, winner of a prestigious Thelonious Monk Institute scholarship, with Dominic Thiroux on bass and Hamir Atwal on drums.
Along with that 2006 Independent Music Award, twin brothers pianist Pascal LeBoeuf and saxophonist Remy LeBoeuf have racked up a serious list of musical achievements:
* Both Remy and Pascal were selected for The 2005 Betty Carter Jazz Ahead Residency Program at the Kennedy Center.
* Both Remy and Pascal received John Coltrane Foundation Scholarships. The brothers were the only recipients invited to perform at the awards ceremony at the House of Blues in Hollywood.
* Both Remy and Pascal received ASCAP Young Composers Awards for the third time in a row.
And that's the short list.
It was just two years ago that twin brothers pianist Pascal LeBoeuf and saxophonist Remy LeBoeuf graduated from Santa Cruz's Pacific Collegiate School and set off for New York City to study at the Manhattan School of Music.
By then, the brothers had already acquired a crateful of honors and awards. For example, in 2003 Pascal became the youngest artist to ever receive the Quincy Jones Commission for Emerging Composers from the International Association of Jazz Educators. The brothers performed the resulting suite, "Where There's Smoke," at the association's January 2004 convention in New York with a band featuring saxophone star Chris Potter, and received a rousing standing ovation from a tough crowd of industry professionals.
Since then, as the list above attests, the brothers have been making the most of the their time in the Big Apple, where they've been studying and playing gigs with stars like Kenny Barron, Mike Abene and Dick Oatts.
See first hand how much these exciting young musicians have grown and matured as they make an explosive return to Jazz at Pearl's.
