Whitney Lyman: "She's a rich, youthful blend of indie originality and easy popularity, with a magnetic voice and an intuitively fluid lyricism that captures the gothic majesty of a thousand ancient churches, headed light years into galactic reaches. Gauzy, cavernous, yet pure, able to pierce the heart of the story, the pulse of a catchy beat, the turns and spins of a melody ramp." -AXS.com (see more)
"Singer/songwriter Whitney Lyman can bring out the lyrical hook in any rough track, with a sound that's a cross between nostalgia and visionary." -The Examiner.com
"With her single, "Laser Beam", Lyman just may have invented a new musical style: dream pop." -AXS
"Whitney Lyman's elegant voice lends itself well to such a beautiful song 'Laser Beam.'" -Northwest Music Scene
"Whitney Lyman... provided a slew of riches during her time onstage gorgeous songs that combined the rhythmic adventure of her band Pollens with shoegazing languidness, an airily beautiful singing voice, and a game group of backing musicians behind her. A few more gigs at center stage, and she should be ready for world conquest." -The Sun Break
"All of the songs on the self-titled album [Supersonic Parachute,] are nicely arranged pop songs with R&B leanings that use Lyman's voice particularly well, but it's the fourth song, "Love is a Spark" that has me hitting replay over and over again..It has exactly what I look for in a great pop song: effervescent harmonies, a big, smart, catchy-as-hell chorus, a nicely constructed bridge and a sexiness that is both underlying and overt." -Chris Burlingame, The Sun Break
V. Contreras: "If the world were right all of the time, Victoria would be a huge star right now." - Duff McKagan, Guns n Roses, Seattle
"If Victoria feels like flashing the Victory sign, she is certainly entitled to do so." - Seattle Times, Gene Stout
Contreras has a voice that most singers would die for, or use auto tune to try to get, but this lovely lady is the real deal. She doesn't need any of that modern day crap to enhance her songs because she is aand forgive me for saying thisa throwback singer to when women handled themselves with class and had a sex appeal that made you pay attention. - Troy Michael, Innocent Words Magazine
"V. Contreras is emerging as Seattle's answer to the most memorable alternative soul divas of recent memory: Amy Winehouse, Adele, Joss Stone." Seattle Gay News, Jessica Price
"V. Contreras' star is on the rise and it couldn't happen to more talented and delightful human being. Her passionate and soulful voice fills the room and hearkens back to a more purer time in the music business." Glenn Casebeer, Northwest Music
"V. Contreras looks to drag the polartec wearing music scene of Seattle into the next century and dress it up with some sophistication whether they like it or not."- Innocent Words, Rick J. Bowen Strings pour, horns soar and a refreshingly soulful voice takes center stage. You are suddenly transcended to 1962. You begin to sway to a familiar nostalgic sound. Then, the lyrics take over and a touch of modern instrumentation and production is unveiled. The sheer poetic relevance and honesty jolts you. Bold, bright, clever, incensed, dark, strong, silly, sadthis is not a sound from the 60's but the sound of today and tomorrow. Transfixed, you journey through this eerie world, and somehow you cannot seem to get enough. The album ascends, the final track arrives and yet you are already hitting repeat. You take note. This might be revival of the album. V. Contreras is often referred to as the love child of Dusty Springfield and Nancy Sinatra with a splash of The Ronettes. V., a Seattle-based alternative soul artist, is a classically trained vocalist and long-time jazz aficionado who has long been known for her rich and soulful voice. Often referred to as the little girl with the giant voice, her rich tone has earned her comparisons to Karen Carpenter and Linda Ronstadt.
Come "hang out" with Whitney Lyman and V. Contreras at Victory Studios and get your 15 minutes of fame on "Band in Seattle."
