Home Sweet Farm Stand Up Potluck and Farm Tour with Slow Food Austin
A&M and UT may bash helmets on the football field, but locavorism transcends all boundaries - Slow Food Austinites will be noshing cosily with the Brazos Locavores on May 1st to celebrate local food and farms. Our hosts will be Brad and Jennie Stufflebeam of Home Sweet Farm in Brenham. Brad, past president of the Texas Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association and one-time operations director for World Hunger Relief, has been called a "local food movement guru" by one Texas publication; he produces his own radio show, hosts farming workshops, and generally advocates for community-based food, all while running a successful CSA operation with his wife Jennie. Their 22-acre farm features draft-horses and collaborative CSA shares, including optional grassfed beef, cheese, honey and eggs from other local farmers. Our stand-up potluck will be a wonderful opportunity to trade ideas with other locavores on a soft and breezy spring afternoon, while learning from Farmer Brad about recent developments in the local food movement. Bring a simple potluck item, your own bowl and utensils, and expect local winery samples! $15 tickets will be redeemed for Home Sweet Farm produce.
