Whatever Happened to Post-Racial America?
The opening event of the Martha's Vineyard Book Festival features a dialogue between two high-profile journalists: Ta-Nehisi Coates, national correspondent for The Atlantic, and Michele Norris, National Public Radio host and founder of The Race Card Project.
Sponsored by the Vineyard Gazette, the discussion will be followed by a reception.
Coates is the author of the memoir, The Beautiful Struggle, who writes about cultural, social and political issues for The Atlantic and its website. He drew wide attention for his provocative cover story, The Case for Reparations, and is the author of the upcoming book, Between the World and Me: Notes on the First 150 Years in America.
A popular host on NPR, Norris leads "The Race Card Project," an initiative to foster a wider conversation about race in America that she created after the publication of her 2010 family memoir, The Grace of Silence.
The Martha's Vineyard Book Festival runs through Sunday, Aug. 2 and includes free events and book signings on Saturday in Edgartown and Sunday in Chilmark. For more information about the festival, go to mvbookfestival.com.
