Bath Roller Derby Girls Fresh Meat Course
BRDG are delighted to announce that this Summer, we'll be inviting a third generation of 'Fresh Meat' to learn to play roller derby with us! If you've always wanted to give derby a go, now is your chance :D
** How Do I Sign Up? ** Interest in our next course has been extremely high, so to give everyone a fair chance to secure their place at 12pm on June 6th tickets will go on sale here. At this time you'll also be asked to pay for your first two sessions (£10).
** When / Where Will The Sessions Take Place? ** Starting on July 5th, at Beechen Cliff School in Bath, then every following Sunday, from 11am to 1pm. Each session will cost £5, pay as you go (after the initial sign up for two sessions.)
** Who Can Join? ** BRDG welcomes all people aged 18+ regardless of lifestyle, sexual orientation, race, religion and gender identity. People with a disability are also welcomed on to our Fresh Meat course, although if your ability to skate is affected this may not be possible.
BRDG operates as a women's only competitive league. This means that our teams consist of female-identifying skaters. We also allow male-identifying skaters wishing to become referees to take our Fresh Meat course.
If male-identifying skaters wish to learn to play roller derby as a sport, they should join the Facebook group 'Bath Merby' - they'll be very happy to hear from you!
** How Will The Course Run? ** This 19 week course will start on July 5th, with a three week 'Learn To Skate' period, in which we'll be showing you the very basics of roller skating, kit maintenance, safety etc.
In Weeks 4 - 14 we'll start teaching you the skills you'll need to play roller derby, as an individual and as a team. Finally, you'll move on to 4 weeks of "Scrimmage 101" (or Reffing 101 if you've decided you'd rather officiate.) During this period we'll move you on to game play based drills and get you ready for your graduation to the League!
** What Do I Need? ** You will need your own skates and safety gear to play roller derby. We can provide advice on kit once you join and before the course starts. We can also help with sourcing cheaper second hand kit if need be. Some kit can also be provided on short term loan from us.
