About the Book Japan: A Reverence for Beauty 128 pages; 104 color images; $250 ISBN: 978-890449-70-4 A co-publication of Balcony Press and The Huntington
About the Author Gil Garcetti visited Japan for the first time in 1967 and has returned many times over the years, always struck by the beauty of its natural and cultural environments. Garcetti has explored the concept of beauty in a project that has now been released as a limited edition folio of lush color photographs. It raises the questions, "Why are the Japanese people unique in their reverence and respect for beauty?" and "What can Westerners learn from this ancient culture and from the Japanese today that might enlarge our perspectives as a nation or people?"
Printed on richly textured paper and hand sewn into a limited edition of 1,000 copies, this book will become a favorite on the art lover's bookshelf. Published in two languages, the work reveals to Japanese and Americans alike the lessons of a legacy of beauty that Japanese culture offers.
