Writers Behaving Badly
Paradoxically, while there are many, often helpful "rules of thumb" for writing good fiction - show don't tell, write what you know, etc - writers, at heart, are rule breakers. In this class we'll consider some of the unspoken "you-can't-write-that" rules that censor our work...and then set out to break them.
Peter Ho Davies is the author of the novel The Welsh Girl, and the story collections The Ugliest House in the World and Equal Love. His work has appeared in Harpers, The Atlantic, Granta and The Paris Review, and been selected for Prize Stories: The O. Henry Award and Best American Short Stories.
Tickets for this event are available online for $25, plus a small service fee. You are also welcome to buy tickets for $30 at the door on Saturday, May 21, 2011. All proceeds from the How to Write Like I Do workshop series benefit the free writing programs that 826michigan provides to students aged 6-18 in southeastern Michigan.
