Nicolas Carter and Maliya
Nicolas Carter and Maliya A Concert of South American Music Fri-Sat, April 1-2 at 7:30 p.m.
For this concert, Paraguayan harpist Nicolas Carter will be accompanied by the fresh voice and musical talent of his daughter Maliya. Maliya spent the last year traveling through South America studying Paraguayan polka, Argentine tango and Brazilian bossa nova. This will be the first time since her return that Nicolas and Maliya will play together for audiences. Audiences are invited to enjoy a variety of uplifting musical styles from throughout South America and the joyful and engaging on-stage presence of this father-daughter duo.
Nicolas Carter was raised in Paraguay where he learned to play the harp, the national folk instrument. He has been composing, recording and performing harp music for 20 years and has recorded nearly a dozen albums in the United States, Europe and South America, both as a solo artist and with a variety of Latin American and world music ensembles. Nicolas holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in theatre directing from the University of Minnesota and was a Fulbright scholar in France.
