Presented by Inhouse Talent and hosted by Revolutionary Poet Sellassie, The 2Racks Rap Contest is a fast-paced, single-elimination contest where the top upcoming artists will perform their original music, competing for cash prizes. Designed to expose interesting and determined emerging artists, cultivate relationships, and build community among independents, 2Racks is the newest component from Inhouse Talent, creating a movement where emerging artists thrive, and a place to discover the future in underground and independent emcees.
The 2Racks Rap Contest host Sellassie is shining as a leading progressive voice in San Francisco Bay Hip Hop. With an acclaimed debut release, I'm Tryin' to Make a Livin' Not a Killin', and a new follow-up album, Sins of Your Forefathers, he is carving his niche. Although inspired and motivated from reading hundreds of books, Sellassie is self-taught and came up on the streets. Sellassie's lyric is rooted in a deep comprehension of the world around him. He writes on domestic and world politics, international relations and community needs, corporate thuggery and the obstacles independent artists face. He has seen first hand the problems that his music addresses. He has seen black on black crime, he has lost many close friends to homicide, he has seen the drugs and money destroy his community, he has witnessed the decay of Independent Bay Area Hip Hop. In addition to the new record, Sellassie is building this revolutionary show series WE ALL WE GOT and 2Racks, is working with many social, political and youth based initiatives, and is a contributor to various special projects including Emcees for Peace's The Matter That Matters CD and the film, "It Doesn't Cost Nothin' to Dream."
2Racks Rap Contest is a series, with additional dates on March 17 in Atlanta, March 24 in Brooklyn, April 8 in Hollywood and April 9 in Pasadena. The event is a spin-off of the WE ALL WE GOT showcase series, all productions are independent artist created and produced for independent artists, no promoter, no gimmick, creating a movement where upcoming talent can gain exposure and experience. We've produced over 60 successful events in just over the last year in California (San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley, San Jose, Sacramento, Los Angeles, Hollywood and Pasadena), Reno, NV and now in Brooklyn, NY, Atlanta, GA, and Austin TX. With the pulse of the streets and the heart of the people, 2Racks Rap Contest is determined to pack clubs with new music and cultivate a thriving environment for the independent artist.
