The Tribe
An utter masterpiece of visual storytelling, THE TRIBE is the story of a group of students at a school for the deaf in the Ukraine and the tumult of an entire year therein as a newcomer tries to fit in amongst the criminal element of his peers the tribe. The film unfolds entirely in sign language without subtitles or voice over narration yet remains universally accessible, a haunting, sometimes terrifying look at the scars, both mental and physical, that can develop under exactly the wrong circumstances as a forbidden love threatens to explode the entire situation. Winner of the Critics Week Grand Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, The Tribe is unlike any film you've ever seen and its stark, often brutal tale will linger on in your memory.
