RAFFLESIA
ONE ENSEMBLE presents Wayne E. Yang's RAFFLESIA, a story told through interdisciplinary performance including music, dance, and projection The Rafflesia is one of the biggest flowers in the world and is known as a corpse flower by the locals in Southeast Asia. Wayne E. Yang wrote the story inspired by Rafflesia for solo flute by the composer Benjamin Boone. Set in present day NYC, the concert tells the story of the horrifying experience of protagonist, Mann had, whose pride and joy was a pair of stainless steel embroidery scissors and a paper Rafflesia plant that he was sculpting.
Award-winning guitarist Kenji Haba, Director of ONE ENSEMBLE, directs and presents the production in ONE's original concert format: a story based interdisciplinary performance where music takes primary role to facilitate and convey the ideas and emotions embedded in the narrative with a variety of performing art-forms including dance and theater. Performance includes 2 WORLD PREMIERES composed by Drew Spradlin and Hirona Amamiya.
ONE ENSEMBLE production of RAFFLESIA will be choreographed by Megain Hornaday. It has music directions by Drew Spradlin and Hirona Amamiya, and playwright by Katherine Shen.
