GaNADa
Dohee Lee is a vocalist, composer, and performer who explores her training in shamanistic ritual music, dance, and Korean percussion in order to create unique interdisciplinary work. GaNADa is a new work in progress, inspired by traditional Korean mask and puppet dance and Korean mythology, in which Lee explores the creative process and the fundamental transformation of a human experience. This personal work is a continuation of her previous piece, DeepSea, which connected the tales of two ancient goddesses from Korean mythology, Mago and Baridegi, with her own story and history.
Particularly, GaNADa will address more relationship between Mago (Myth, like dream) and the real life like destiny. Like between the past (including Karma) and present life.
GaNADa is "Korean word such as ABC letter. However, each letters are being selected certain meaning on this piece such as "Ga=go" "NA= myself" "Da=everything" so it means "all my self go through the myth, linage of ancestry and life now".
Finding own path through invisible strings from Goddess Mago.
The Journey starts with a protagonist's questioning adventure between her real life and dreams
GaNADa will be performed by Tatsu Aoki, Adria Otte and Dohee Lee who will combine film, live music and dance.
This project is commissioned by Asian Pacific Islander Cultural Center with support from the San Francisco Arts Commission.
