San Francisco Scottish Fiddlers '11 Spring Concerts with Alasdair Fraser: The time has come again to speak of several things! Performance and enjoyment, shared music and excitement are near. This special program celebrates the gathered influences and the beating heart of Scottish music, and celebrates our first Quarter Century of musical performance. Please join us as we visit two new cities for evening shows, Redwood City and Roseville, and come see us again for our grand finale in Yountville.
Something Ancient and Something New: The stage fills with over 100 performers who share each show's creation in dance and song, fiddle and cello, piano and drum, harp and guitar, bagpipe and flute; each hall bursts with an infectious sense of fun and joy in community-based music making... or music-based community, depending on how one looks at it.
"We basically take a village on the road; we're living the music" says the group's music director, renowned Scottish fiddler Alasdair Fraser, who together with his wife Sally Ashcraft and about 40 friends founded San Francisco Scottish Fiddlers (SFSF) in 1987. There are now about 300 members, stretching from northern California, throughout the US and in several other countries, including Scotland, France, Canada and Australia. "Music crosses all kinds of boundaries, and clears away obstacles; children and adults, individuals with widely varying backgrounds and levels of musical skill, and people who don't even share a common spoken language can be part of the village in a meaningful way."
TWO ADDITIONAL PERFORMANCES! If you miss us Friday 4/29 at 8:00 P.M. in REDWOOD CITY, consider attending the Saturday evening 4/30 ROSEVILLE performance, AT 7:00 PM; OR one final opportunity on Sunday 5/1 at 3:00 PM, our matinee performance at the Lincoln Theater, Napa Valley, in YOUNTVILLE. FOR OUR SUNDAY MATINEE PERFORMANCE, PLEASE PURCHASE DIRECTLY FROM THE LINCOLN THEATER NAPA VALLEY BOX OFFICE: Tickets by Phone:: 1-707-844-9900 Tickets on-line: www.lincolntheater.com
