Community MusicWorks Fellows Quartet Concert
Community MusicWorks Fellows Quartet will perform Shostakovich String Quartet No. 8 and Schubert's celebrated "Death and the Maiden" String Quartet No. 14 in D minor at Jamestown Arts Center in Jamestown, RI.
Founded in 1997, Community MusicWorks (CMW) is a nationally recognized community-based organization that uses music education and performance as a vehicle to build lasting and meaningful relationships between children, families, and professional musicians in urban neighborhoods of Providence, RI. CMW has been featured in The New Yorker as a "revolutionary organization in which the distinction between performing and teaching disappears."
Community MusicWorks Fellowship Program invites young professional musicians to apply for a two-year position to teach, mentor, perform and acquire first-hand knowledge about all aspects of CMW. The Fellowship Program allows CMW to share its model with other musicians who are inspired to create careers that combine artistry and service. These Fellows form the "Fellows String Quartet" and perform in and around Providence throughout the year. This year, they happily will be performing in Jamestown.
This year's Fellows include Rhiannon Banerdt and Shawn LeSure, violins, Hannah Ross, viola, and Clara Yang, cello.
The Jamestown Arts Center is a beautiful location for this program. Founded in 2007, the Mission of the Jamestown Arts Center is to engage, enrich and inspire our community through extraordinary arts and educational experiences. In addition to inspiring gallery shows, the center has used its light and open space for public music performances.
