STAND OUT TALENT PRESENTS: RENT The Musical
Stand Out Talent will present Jonathan Larson's much-lauded musical RENT, winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and 4 Tony Awards including the Best Musical.
Based on Grigorio Puccini's popular opera La Bohème, RENT explores a year in the lives of young New York City artists fighting to live each day to the fullest despite the outbreak of HIV/AIDS in the mid- 1990's. The underlying theme is the necessity of connection through adversity, human beings discarding their judgment of one another as they reach out for someone to love, and be loved by, as they face an uncertain and frightening future.
Featuring songs like "Rent," "One Song Glory," and "Seasons of Love," Jonathan Larson's final work is just as relevant and relatable almost 20 years later. Larson passed away unexpectedly the morning of the show's first preview performance, suffering an aortic aneurism related to Marfan's disease. He would be posthumously awarded multiple awards including 3 Tonys, 3 Obies, 3 Drama Desk Awards and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
Stand Out Talent has assembled a dynamic cast of 24 from the greater Sacramento region, many of them Elly award winners and nominees. Rehearsal clips can be found on Facebook at Stand Out Talent.
RENT is part of Stand Out Talent's Adult Professional Series and is recommended for ages 18 and over; we strongly recommend younger teens be accompanied by adults. This show portrays characters struggling with HIV/AIDS, drug usage, sexuality and mortality, as well as intermittent profanity. Rated R. Show dates are June 12 June 28th. Ticket prices are $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and $8 for students.
