California's Water Challenge: Designing for a Sustainable Future
California's Water Challenge: Designing for a Sustainable Future
Date: Wednesday July 22, 2015 Time: 4:00 5:30 pm Location: Bernardo Winery Cost: Free Continuing Education Credits: 1.5 CE LU/HSW
Though California has, in recent years, improved water use efficiency standards for indoor plumbing and outdoor landscaping through market transformation and ordinances, the state is in now the midst of an unprecedented drought that will further drive permanent change to how we use water. The State Water Resources Control Board recently adopted regulations requiring significant reductions of urban water use across California, in-turn driving changes to design standards for new building construction, renovations and landscaping. This course will survey recent improvements in water-use efficiency, offer a snap-shot of the current supply situation, summarize current codes for water efficient design and investigate contemplated changes to existing building codes aimed at enhancing sustainability.
