Call & Response: May Edition
Call and Response is a new contemporary music series that explores the process of writing and performing music. Emerging composers will have a piece premiered and engage in conversation with the musicians performing the work, as well as the audience, about the composition's conception, execution, and how it may evolve. By taking conversations about performance practice, notational systems, interpretation and creativity out of the practice room and putting them on stage, audiences can pick the brains of composers and performers and gain new insight into the creative process.
This month's Call and Response features brand new work for voice and piano by composer Jam Jacobs! The first work is a song cycle based on Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, and sung in Middle English. There will also be three musical theatre songs, two for tenor and one for soprano.
