Miss Julie is August Strindberg's naturalistic tragedy about sex, greed and manipulation. Told in one act over the course of one evening, the play deals with the power struggle between the aristocratic Miss Julie and her father's handsome, ambitious valet Jean. What begins as a flirtatious contest for power, rapidly escalates to a love relationship - or is it just lust? - that is fully consummated. Over the course of the play, the battle for control swings back and forth between them until Jean finally convinces Miss Julie that the only way to escape her predicament is to commit suicide.
