Opening Reception: Tim Whiten

Meridian Gallery's new online exhibition series, MERIDIAN STUDIO VISITS, returns with Catching the Rainbow: Image Maker Tim Whiten in Conversation with Jarrett Earnest.

To celebrate, we are hosting an opening reception at the beautiful and historic Inn at the Presidio. Join us for light refreshments and a special screening of the exhibition's short, documentary-style film (courtesy of videographers Michael Hurlbut and Michael Lobel, and editor Peter Foley) featuring writer Jarrett Earnest visiting sculptor Tim Whiten in Whiten's home studio

On Friday, March 13, 2015, Jarrett Earnest sat down with eminent image-maker Tim Whiten to discuss Whiten's recent glass works, rhythm in drawing and music, and the textures of color and light. Surrounded by the African masks and glass figures that adorn Whiten's home studio, the pair explored the rhythmic processes of breath, voice, and household labor that guide Whiten's gestural art making. Earnest extended his visit to Toronto's Cascade Crystal Studio, where Whiten creates his translucent glass sculptures, to view two new works-in-progress. Their filmed conversation will be available online as part of the second edition of MERIDIAN STUDIO VISITS online.
