New Edge Resident Artists Series
The Community Education Center (CEC) and Meeting House Theatre proudly presents 3 outstanding local artists in 3 exciting weekends of dance and performance work that is sure to charm you!  The 2010-2011 CEC New Edge Resident Artists Performance Series artists are: Marcel Williams Foster (performance theatre), Mina Estrada (dance), and Shannon Murphy (dance), in order of their performances that will take place at the CEC Meeting House Theatre on 3 consecutive weekends, the last two weekends in March and the first of April.

Marcel Williams Foster (director, writer, and choreographer), won critical acclaim for his previous co-production (with Hyphen-Nation Arts) of The Jane Goodall Experience ('10 Philly Fringe), will debut Sonso, Simians and Pierrot.  This play is a further investigation and flirtation with the world of science and his experiences as a former researcher with the Jane Goodall Institute.  The work incorporates original music by Aya Nishina, audience interaction and dance.  Performed by Brandon Sloan, Matteo Scammell, and Hannah de Keijzer.

Mina Estrada (choreographer and dancer) is a 2005 graduate of the Temple University earning a Masters of Fine Arts in Dance.  She moved away after graduation and recently relocated to Philly after several years of moving about the country with her dance.  Mina has chosen the mother-daughter relationship as the fuel for her evening length dance theatre piece (as yet untitled).  The evening length work features dancers: Shavon Norris, Danielle Kinne, Rebekah Rickards, Chijioke Robinson, and. Marcie Mamura.

Shannon Murphy (choreographer and dancer), whose work was performed as part of the CEC's 2009-2010 New Edge Mix Performances Series and received a glowing review by Merilyn Jackson, returns this season as a CEC New Edge Resident Artist.  She has teamed again with Steve Surgalski who is doing music and lighting for their newest work, Find, which coincidently also takes its inspiration from familial relationships.  Shannon is joined in performance by Kristel Baldoz, Patricia Dominguez, and Jumatatu Poe.
