An evening with Phil Liggett MBE
Cascade Bicycle Club is very proud to present an evening with one of the true legends in the history of cycling, Phil Liggett, MBE. Phil is universally referred to simply as "The Voice of Cycling." For those who watch cycling regularly, he is indeed considered royalty; someone who is revered and whose voice transcends the sport itself.
Phil is a former amateur cyclist and active cycle advocate, and has worked as a television commentator since 1978. In addition to the many bicycle events, he has covered eight summer and five winter Olympic Games for ITV, BBC, CBS and NBC. He has also worked on 37 Tour de France events, never having being home to Hertfordshire, England during the month of July since 1973!
His uncanny knack for poetic commentary on the bike races he covers has been very well chronicled, even being published in his book "Dancing on the Pedals: The Found Poetry of Phil Liggett". Copies of the book will be available for sale at the show.
In 1992 he was awarded the "medal of honor" from the Tour de France organizers for twenty years of non-stop reporting, and in 2002 a new, silver plaque for thirty years. Most of the cycling fans around the world no doubt hope he makes it to the fifty year mark.
In June 2005, he became a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the Queen's Birthday Honors list, and in October 2007 he was given a Lifetime Achievement award by the U.S. Hall of Fame.
This special show will be hosted by Erik Moen PT, who has hosted many Cascade special presentations over the past five years. Phil will speak solo and then Erik will host a moderated Q& A session, followed by a post-show autograph period. The Intiman Theater is one of Seattle best venues for an intimate experience with every seat in the house is close to the action.
