8th Annual Art of Adaptation Festival
This year's selections draw inspiration from source material ranging from podcasts to classic poetry. The eight adaptations to be performed are as follows:

Half-Hanged Mary, adapted from Margaret Atwood's poem of the same name, by Anne Walszek;

Corrosion Dance, based on Adieu from Arthur Rimbaud's extended poem Une Saison en Enfer, by Gregory Krzak;

The Case of Pete's Civic Responsibility, based on episode #155 from Pete Holmes' podcast, You Made It Weird, by Dan Jackson;

The 9 Billion Names of God,  adapted from Arthur C. Clarke's science fiction short story of the same name, by David Denman

Past Independence Rock, Through Devil's Gate, based on The Diary of Kate Dunlap, 1864-1865, by Tom Murphy;

Persephone, based on the Greek Myth Persephone, by Genevieve Lally;

Booster, adapted from a collection of quotations from former Chicago Mayor Richard J. Daley, by Bret Angelos;

The Coffin Maker, based on Anton Chekhov's short story "Rothchild's Fiddle" by Jonathan Libman

Each adaptation will be performed twice during the festival.

On Friday, May 29, at 7:30 PM, Half-Hanged Mary, Corrosion Dance, The Case of Pete's Civic Responsibility, and The 9 Billion Names of God will perform without intermission.

On Saturday, May 30, at 7:30 PM, Past Independence Rock, Through Devil's Gate, Persephone, Booster and The Coffin Maker, will perform without intermission.

On Sunday, May 31, at 2:00 PM, all eight adaptations will be presented, with a 15-minute intermission, in a marathon performance. A panel of judges will attend the Sunday performance and choose the winning adaptation. The adaptor of that piece will then be presented with the $500 cash prize.

Ticket prices for The Art of Adaptation are $12 on Friday and Saturday, May 29th and 30th, and $15 for the marathon on Sunday, May 31st. Tickets can be reserved by going to www.citylit.org or by calling (773) 293-3682.
