In this workshop Alison Ivey, in-house counsel at Vulcan Inc., and Rachel Buker of Ironmark Law Group, PLLC, will explore legal issues that arise in various transactions involving visual art including sales, loans, commissions, and consignments. Moving beyond these core issues, our presenters will also examine legal updates, hot issues, and new trends in the art market.
About Our Presenters:
Alison Ivey is Deputy General Counsel at Vulcan Inc. where she advises Vulcan's art group on a wide variety of contractual and compliance matters relating to art transactions. Alison is also an adjunct professor of law at Seattle University where she teaches The Law and Business of Art & Cultural Heritage. Alison is a member of the board of directors of Washington Lawyers for the Arts and a frequent presenter on art-related legal topics. Alison earned her law degree, magna cum laude, from Seattle University School of Law.
Rachel Buker is an intellectual property attorney with Ironmark Law Group in Seattle, Washington. Her law practice is focused primarily on trademark and copyright matters. Rachel counsels artists, writers, start-ups, nonprofits, and multinational companies regarding intellectual property strategy and enforcement. Additionally, Rachel serves as co-vice chair of board of directors for Washington Lawyers for the Arts and on the Emerging Issues Committee of the International Trademark Association. Rachel earned her J.D. cum laude from Lewis & Clark Law School and her B.F.A. from Massachusetts College of Art. She is a multiple award-winning legal writer and a contributing author to the international art law blog Art & Artifice.
