Terra Firma Theatre
Terra Firma theatre is a "biodynamic theatre company dedicated to using theatre as a tool for dialogue and symbiosis between the environment and the arts." With such a strong mission statement, their two rehearsed readings promise to be an opportunity to see one of modern theater's exciting and challenging new prospects.
They are calling the event folie á deux but what does that mean?
folie á deux fȯ-lē-ä-ˈdœ (noun) the presence of the same or similar delusional ideas intwo persons closely associated with one another. Also known as double madness.
In Harold Pinter's "The Dumb Waiter", Gus and Ben are two hitmen assigned to assassinatean unspecified target. They sit in the basement kitchen of an abandoned restaurantawaiting their instructions. As they do so, the two rather awkward men debate, fuss andfight over the most daft of topics, including whether the toilet they've been using has amind of its own. It is not until the long-since-out-of-use dumbwaiter begins deliveringmysterious food orders, however, that the two men really start to lose their minds. Incest, agoraphobia, make-believe children, and Mrs. Pruneface. These are just a fewof the subjects Lanford Wilson tackles in his critically acclaimed short, "Home Free!". See what happens when an incestuously impregnated young woman and her agoraphobic brother spend a typically atypical day at home together. Spoiler alert: It doesn't end well. The Dumb Waiter: Eric Slater (Ben), Derek Lucci (Gus) Home Free!: Hannah Cabell (Joanna), Derek Lucci (Lawrence) Stage directions: Birgit Huppuch 8pm, tickets $10.
