American: The Bill Hicks Story
American: The Bill Hicks Story April Saturday 30 (8pm $10) (10pm $8) | MADCAP Theaters
17 years after his death, Bill Hicks is now more popular than ever and is widely recognized as one of the best American comedians of the modern era. Hicks was described by many names philosopher, social satirist, even preacher, but he was ultimately a performer who for many, changed what comedy could be believing that comedy played a vital role in any free & just society, and that the comedian, an independent free spirit detached from political or corporate agendas, was able to say the unsayable, challenge convention, and ultimately stimulate the audiences thinking habits through discovering new ideas. Now Bill's remarkable story is brought to life in American: The Bill Hicks Story (2009),a feature-length documentary which combines revealing new interviews from those who knew Hicks best, together with a bold new photographic animation technique which takes the audience back inside Hick's unfolding life story, to appreciate the journey of a young American revolutionary, who set out with a dream to change the world. Join director Paul Thomas for a post-screening Q & A via Skype at the 8pm screening. This program is presented in digital and is Co-presented by Perihelion Arts.
