Brazilian Nights PNW Present CHORO DAS 3 with Choroloco!
Choro das 3 is a Brazilian instrumental group of three sisters and their father that plays choro, the first music in Brazil to define a national musical identity. Choro music represents a window into an entire musical world. It raises and joins listeners' spirits with an irresistible Afro-Brazilian syncopated rhythm. The genre emerged in the late 1800's, a confluence of rural Tupi Indian and African plantation dance forms with the sophisticated waltzes, polkas, mazurkas, and classical music traditions of European immigrants. There is no music on earth quite like it!

Flutist Corina, now 27, doubles on piccolo, trading lead and counterpoint roles with multi-instrumentalist Elisa, 22, on bandolim (Brazilian mandolin), banjo, and clarinet; Elisa also writes and performs at the piano. Lia, 24, anchors the harmony and provides the bass lines so essential to choro with the violão de sete cordas (7-string guitar). Their father, Eduardo, supplies the band's rhythmic heartbeat with the pandeiro (Brazilian tambourine).

Choro das 3 preserves and extends a tradition over 100 years old - one that continues to attract composers, virtuoso musicians, and incredulous, delighted audiences.
