Restore Nichols Concert Hall
Nichols Concert Hall just celebrated its 100th anniversary and the building is in critical need of repair. Over these many years the basic structure has deteriorated from the wear and tear inflicted by Mother Nature and tens of thousands of feet that have passed through our doors! The stone veranda floor at the grand entrance is crumbling and needs to be completely replaced. The roof was badly compromised this year due to ice damming and has leaked through the ceiling and interior walls. Although the roof was repaired, the resulting water damage has literally caused the plaster to peel away in places. This is just a sample of some of the more impending items that need our immediate attentionbut most of all, we are in desperate need of replacing the antiquated HVAC system. The chiller and the boiler are in such bad condition that the system could fail at any time. We Need your help!

Nichols Concert Hall is a nationally recognized historic landmark. The Music Institute of Chicago purchased the building in 2003 and converted the space to a 550 seat concert hall and community music school, winning an award from the Landmarks Preservation Council for adaptive reuse. The hall houses two concert grand Steinway pianos and a historic E.M. Skinner organ and manages 600 events a year.

Nichols Concert Hall is a central space that provides our students an opportunity to perform and share music with their teachers, friends, and families. It has become an essential venue for professional arts organizations to gather and has repeatedly served the community by presenting events that raise awareness and funds to support humanitarian causes. These includebut are not limited tothe Red Cross, Sing-to-Live Community Chorus, BLUME Haiti, the William Warfield Memorial Scholarship Fund, Connections for the Homeless and the Greater Chicago Food Depository.

World renowned artists who have graced the stage in Nichols Concert Hall include Yo Yo Ma, Daniel Barenboim, Marian McPartland, Paquito d'Rivera, Sergei Babayan, Marcus Roberts, Terrel Stafford, Leonard Slatkin, Almita and Roland Vamos, Menahem Pressler, The Five Browns, the Pacifica and Ying Quartets, and Rachel Barton Pine. Nichols Concert Hall has also been a chosen venue for organizations such as TEDx and KIN Global Initiatives, and was recently selected as a Season 2 location for the hit TV series "Boss" starring Kelsey Grammar.

The estimated cost of restoring this amazing creative space is more than $300,000. The Kresge Foundation has already helped us to save $110,000. If we meet our goal and raise $50,000, a generous donor has agreed to match our effort with a challenge gift of $50,000. Please add your support and help us complete these repairs so that we can look forward to serving our community for another 100 years.

With heartfelt thanks for your gifts to restore Nichols Concert Hall.
