1:00 Voice Leading Taught by John Hicks Turn your ukulele into more than a collection of strings, but a versatile four-voice choir capable of amazing harmonic journeys. Workshop participants will develop an approach to playing "up the neck" that can be used to create their own chord and melody arrangements. Special emphasis will be placed on turn-arounds, vamps and introductions used in the music of the 1920s and '30s, and some written material will be provided. Facility with movable chord forms (7th's, 6's, diminished) and a C-tuned uke required.
2:00 Uke a la Smeck Taught by Joel Eckhaus This workshop will include various right hand strums, Smeck tricks (Roy Smeck, the "Wizard of the Strings"), and a basic chord melody thing like five foot two or 12th st. rag.
