MACBETH at Forest Theatre, Chapel Hill
Few plays, if any, are as notorious as this one.
Many actors and practitioners won't even utter the name in a theater, such is the reputation for Shakespeare's "cursed" tribute to King James I of England (who was also King James VI of Scotland). The king had a fascination with witchcraft and spirits and this play delivered - with a heavy dose of betrayal and bloodshed along the way.
Having played Lady Macbeth in Bare Theatre's 2006 production, veteran Triangle actress and longtime Bare Theatre member Rebecca Blum takes the helm in this epic Shakespearean tragedy. This will be the company's fourth production on the outdoor stage at RLT in three years, and it features a new take on the "Scottish play," with a re-cut script by Blum that focuses on the disintegration of family within the jealous power-hungry struggle known so well to theatergoers.
Food trucks will be on hand, and picnicking is permitted. NOTE: Saturday, 7/25, there will NOT be a food truck. Locopops will be on hand with tasty popsicles!
ALCOHOL IS NOT PERMITTED ON THE PREMISES, AS THIS IS A TOWN PARK.
PARKING: Please arrive early to allow time to find parking! Though the address of Forest Theatre is on Boundary St., the entrance to the amphitheater is actually on Country Club Rd., just around the corner. We recommend parking along Country Club Rd., or in the Cobb Deck just behind Playmakers.
