de Porres Compton Dos
Sunday, May 31st at 6PM we'll be back at Moonwater Farm. We cannot say enough about this magical space and the surrounding Richland Farms. What we can do is insist you experience it all for yourself.
The evening starts with chicha morada, a refreshing beverage made from Andean purple corn, various fruits, cinnamon, and cloves. We'll be spiking it with Cava. For the small bite, there will be raw Japanese turnips with anchovy and lemon. Next is ceviche Peruano, raw fish prepared with lots of lime, salt, the fruity Andean yellow pepper aji amarillo, accompanied by sweet potato and garnished with salsa criolla and canchita.
Next, we'll make use of Kathleen and Richard's purple galaxy and yellow pear tomatoes, topping them with a sauce made of huacatay, a powerful and distinctive mint native to The Andes, that can, thankfully, be found at the Santa Monica Farmers Market. Slow roasted pork shoulder follows. Rubbed in achiote and aji panca, marinated overnight, and cooked at low heat until tender, it will be served with majado de platonos, mashed plantains cooked with garlic and chicharrĂ³n, not dissimilar from the Puerto Rican mofongo. And for dessert: lemon chess pie, a custard-like delicacy with a crunchy cornmeal top. My native Kentucky likes to claim it as its own, but so do a number of other Southern states. It is possible, however, that we make the best version of it.
As with our Silverlake dinner, the suggested donation is $85 BYOB or $100 with wine pairings. RSVP to info@de-porres.com.
