Event
de Porres Micheltorena
We met Shelley Marks at our first Moonwater Farm gathering. She came with one other Master Preserver and a jar of homemade cranberry chutney. Soon after, she and partner Dave opened their Silverlake doors to us.
Pablo and I were instantly awed by their multi-tier organic garden, the sweeping views of the city, and the numerous vinegars and liqueurs Shelley makes herself. A perfect stage for a dinner party, surely. Join us there Tuesday, May 19th, at 7:30 PM.
We'll begin with palomas and bites of causa de cangrejo, Lima's answer to potato salad made with crab, avocado, and aioli. Next, we'll grill anticuchos de corazón. Anticuchos, cow heart on skewers, richly seasoned with the Andean pepper aji panca, vinegar, garlic, and cumin, are a beloved staple on the streets of Peru. Here, we'll serve them plated and paired with Japanese cucumber, celery, and sesame seeds. A salad from Shelley and Dave's magnificent garden follows. For this one, we'll be at the mercy of Mother Nature, but do expect a bit of sorrel and citrus.
For the main course we'll serve sudado de pescado. For the fish we'll turn to Wild Local Seafood Co. for Santa Barbara black cod. If you've not yet encountered these gentlemen at the farmers markets, we suggest you do. The pescado will come in a tomato and wine based sauce of braised fennel, aromatics, and aji amarillo, served alongside fried yucca. We'll close with strawberry walnut cobbler, homemade vanilla ice cream, and a small pour of Shelley's own Nocino, a walnut liqueur traditionally found in Northern Italy, but, in this instance, made with nuts sourced from her Silverlake neighbors.
The suggested donation for this dinner is $85 BYOB or $100 with wine pairings. RSVP to info@de-porres.com. Please note space is limited.
