WASTE LAND
Waste Land follows the journey of renowned
artist Vik Muniz to the world's largest garbage
dump, Jardim Gramacho, outside Rio de
Janeiro. There he photographs an eclectic band
of "catadores"self-designated pickers of
recyclable materials, who also work to improve
life in the slums. The resulting "Pictures of
Garbage" series stunningly portrays the
catadores' dignity and despair and changes
their lives forever.
