Will the Revolution be Tweeted? The Net Delusion: The Dark Side of Internet...
Networking Reception is included in the cost of the event. Networking Reception will begin at 6:00 p.m.; Lecture will begin at 7:00 p.m.
Will the revolution be Tweeted? Do recent examples--from Tunisia, Egypt, Iran, China, and elsewhere--show us the democratizing power of the Internet or, rather, do they prove that authoritarian regimes can use the Internet as another tool of surveillance, repression, and control? In the end, in our connected and globalized world, what are the implications and future of "Internet freedom"?
The World Affairs Council presents Evgeny Morozov, author of The Net Delusion: The Dark Side of Internet Freedom, who will question the concept of "Internet freedom" and the belief that the Internet and social media are inherently tools of democracy.
