Jest A Second! by James Sherman (Beau Jest Playwright)
Oil Lamp Theater in Glenview, IL is pleased to present their production of Jest a Second, a spicy family comedy written by renowned Chicago playwright James Sherman.  The play will premiere on September 24th and run through November 8th.  With the return of fall, Oil Lamp will also be serving their complimentary signature spiced warm apple cider.

The sequel to James Sherman's hit play Beau Jest, Jest A Second! revisits the lovable Goldman family. Sarah and Bob (portrayed by Elizabeth Mazur and Evan Johnson, respectively), who are expecting a child, are hosting a birthday bash for Sarah's mother. But Sarah's brother Joel (played by Andrew Clancy) shows up early with a shocking surprise  he is gay, and the amazing girlfriend Randy he has been telling the family about is actually a man (played by Neil Austin Edwards). Joel's plan to come out to their parents (Rick March and Julie Mitre) comes off the rails when he chickens out, and Bob decides to help him by dressing in drag and pretending to be Randy, the successful doctor girlfriend that Sarah and Joel's parents have heard so much about.  Hilarity ensues as the Goldman family comes together to discover love, honesty, and acceptance.
This hilarious and heartwarming story gives a window into family life  not always perfect, but never boring. Through each twist and turn along life's winding road, the Goldmans must be there for each other; to offer support, love, and acceptance. In light of the recent advances for gay rights, the play speaks to an experience shared today by thousands of families all over the country. While navigating this complicated subject, the Goldmans must stick together through it all.

Lauded by The Chicago Tribune and The Wall Street Journal, James Sherman's depictions of the madcap hijinks of the Goldman family showcase his talent for making audiences laugh while still staying true to the challenges of the modern family.

Keith Gerth, Oil Lamp Theater's founder and artistic director, will direct the production.
