Bleacher Bums by Joe Mantegna
Bleacher Bums, a nine-inning comedy, tells the story of a group of Chicago Cubs fans lounging on the bleachers during a hot summer afternoon. There's Melody, played by Katie Mancuso, a beautiful young sunbather; Greg, portrayed by Martin J. Hughes, whose gentle soul sees what his blind eyes cannot; Zig, a loudmouthed middle-aged man, who will be played by Rob Weinstein; Zig's wife Rose, portrayed by Beth Goldberg, who secretly nurses a massive fanaticism for the Cubs; Decker, played by Eric Loughlin, a business man with a thirst for success; Richie, who will be played by JT Nagle, is a young man whose personal hygiene leaves something to be desired; Marvin, portrayed by Dennis Schnell, who has a gambling problem; and a young cheerleader, portrayed by Emily Hawkins, whose teenage energy is directed solely at the plucky baseball team.
The play follows this eclectic group as they do everything but watch the game. Originally written in a collaborative effort by the Organic Theater Company, Bleacher Bums shows the fascinating dynamics of a Cubs game, and perfectly captures the very human stories that make up a group of fans watching the game on a summer day. These deeply compelling tales will make you laugh, cry, and maybe even root for the Cubs.
The performance runs 2 hours including intermission.
